Very rare in collections, Schismatoglottis wallichii variegata is a variegated variety of Schismatoglottis wallichii Hook.f. It is a clump- to colony-forming, usually stoloniferous herb, sometimes with individual crowns markedly distant. Stems are hapaxanthic, hypogeal, with up to c. 5 leaves together; leaf blades are very variable in shape, mostly more or less oblong-ovate, occasionally broadly ovate to oblong-lanceolate, the base acute to obtuse, more rarely truncate to cordate. The variegated variety of this plant shows light green and yellow variegation, where every leaf emerges with a completely different pattern.
Schismatoglottis is a generic name form Greek schism, schismatos meaning separating, and glotta meaning tongue. The word tongue is referring to the variously deciduous upper part of the spathe that most of the species have.
