- Watering: Water regularly to keep the soil moist, but avoid waterlogging. Young plants are especially sensitive to dry air and dehydration.
- Soil: Use a rich, well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Syzygium plants are tolerant of poor soils.
- Fertilizing: Fertilize regularly, but not too heavily.
- Light: Place in a lit position without direct sunlight.
- Humidity: High humidity is not required, but the leaves should be sprayed with water regularly.
- Shipping: Syzygium plants do not tolerate being barerooted and will likely die if shipped that way. When receiving the plant, do not change the media. Instead, plant the entire rootball into a larger pot of your preferred media.
- Hardening: Grow young plants under glass in a protected area until they reach a height of about 30 cm, then harden them.
Syzygium jiewhoei is a rare, tropical species native to the lowland rainforests of New Guinea. It was named after Singapore’s John Tan (Tan Jiew Hoe). The plant is known for its unusual leaves, beautiful growth, and conical crown.
