The Syngonium Twinkle Strawberry, also known as Syngonium Strawberry Cream or Strawberry Ice, Syngonium Pink Venom is a beautiful and relatively easy-to-care-for houseplant prized for its variegated foliage with shades of green and pink.

Here’s a guide to keeping your Syngonium Twinkle Strawberry, Syngonium Pink Venom happy:

Light

This Syngonium thrives in bright, indirect light. Too much direct sunlight can scorch its delicate leaves, while insufficient light can cause the pink variegation to fade and the plant to become leggy. An east or west-facing window with a sheer curtain or a spot a few feet away from a south-facing window would be ideal. The more bright, indirect light it receives, the more vibrant the pink hues will be.

Watering

Allow the top inch (2-5 cm) of the soil to dry out before watering thoroughly. Ensure the pot has drainage holes to prevent waterlogging, which can lead to root rot. During the active growing season (spring and summer), you’ll likely water more frequently than in the dormant winter months. Reduce watering in winter, allowing the soil to dry out a bit more between waterings.

Humidity

Syngoniums, as tropical plants, appreciate higher humidity levels (above 50%). If your home has dry air, especially during winter, you can increase humidity by:

  • Misting the leaves regularly with room-temperature water.
  • Placing the pot on a pebble tray filled with water (ensure the bottom of the pot isn’t sitting directly in the water).
  • Using a humidifier.
  • Grouping your Syngonium with other houseplants to create a more humid microclimate.

Temperature

Maintain average room temperatures between 15°C and 26°C (60°F and 80°F). Avoid placing your plant in drafty areas or near heating and cooling vents, as sudden temperature fluctuations can stress the plant.

Soil

Use a well-draining potting mix that retains some moisture. A mixture containing peat moss, perlite, and vermiculite is often suitable. Avoid heavy garden soil, as it can retain too much water and lead to root rot.

Fertilizer

During the spring and summer (the growing season), feed your Syngonium Twinkle Strawberry with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength once every 2-4 weeks. Reduce or stop fertilizing during the fall and winter when the plant’s growth naturally slows down.

Pruning

Pruning can help maintain a bushy shape and encourage new growth. You can trim back any long or leggy stems. Pruning is best done in the spring or early summer.

Repotting

Repot your Syngonium when it becomes root-bound, usually every 1-2 years. Choose a pot that is only slightly larger than the previous one and ensure it has drainage holes. Spring or early summer is the best time for repotting.

Propagation

Syngonium Twinkle Strawberry, Syngonium Pink Venom is easily propagated through stem cuttings. Here’s how:

  1. Choose a healthy stem with at least one node (the small bump where leaves emerge).
  2. Using clean, sterilized scissors or pruning shears, cut the stem just below a node.
  3. You can propagate in water or soil:
    • Water Propagation: Place the cutting in a glass of water, ensuring at least one node is submerged. Roots should develop within a few weeks. Once the roots are about 1-2 inches long, you can pot the cutting in well-draining soil.

Soil Propagation: Plant the cutting directly into moist, well-draining potting mix. Keep the soil consistently moist and provide indirect light. Roots should develop within a few weeks.

Pests and Problems

Keep an eye out for common houseplant pests such as spider mites, aphids, and mealybugs. If you notice an infestation, you can treat the plant with insecticidal soap or neem oil.

Overwatering is a common issue that can lead to root rot, indicated by yellowing or mushy leaves. Allow the soil to dry out between waterings. Underwatering can cause crispy leaf edges or yellowing leaves as well.

Toxicity: Syngoniums are toxic if ingested, so keep them away from pets and small children.

By providing the right conditions and care, your Syngonium Twinkle Strawberry, Syngonium Pink Venom will thrive and bring a touch of colorful elegance to your indoor space!
