The Philodendron White Wizard casts a spell with creamy white and green variegated leaves that sit upon sleek green stems. This rare but low-maintenance indoor plant is a vining plant! You can encourage it to grow bigger leaves if you provide it with a stake or trellis as it grows.
We recommend placing the White Wizard in a spot that receives at least 5-6 hours of bright indirect sunlight to encourage healthy leaf development and variegation. You mustn’t over-water these plants! Let the soil almost completely dry out before you water them.

Light

Philodendron White Wizard prefers medium to bright indirect sunlight but can live in lower light conditions. However, their leaves will be smaller, and the vines will become leggy if the light is not bright enough. Bright ambient light will help maintain the variegation on the leaves and prevent the plant from reverting to all green leaves! Read more about indoor plant lighting needs!

Water

Water the soil thoroughly after the soil is almost completely dry. It indicates that it needs water when the leaves start wilting. Water more often in the growing season (when the plant is showing signs of growth) and reduce the frequency during winter.

Soil

Nutrient-rich, light, and slightly porous soil is vital for growing magnificent Philodendron. Most bagged potting soils (do not use garden topsoil) will be adequate for this garden of indoor plants but ensure that the soil is free from moisture-retaining crystals as they can cause root rot when used indoors.

Temperature

Most household temperature ranges are adequate for these indoor plants. Letting them remain in temperatures under 55℉ will stunt their growth. Prolonged exposure to cold temperatures can be fatal for these tropical indoor plants.

Humidity

As with most tropical indoor plants, Philodendrons will benefit from higher humidity but will do fine in average household air. Higher humidity is always better for tropical houseplants. You can use a pebble tray or run a cool-mist humidifier around the plant to keep the humidity at an acceptable level. Learn how to increase the humidity in the air around your indoor plants!

Fertilizer

Philodendron White Wizard benefits significantly from regular fertilizing. Use a weak solution of a complete liquid fertilizer every two weeks throughout the growing season. Do not fertilize during the winter months. Sometimes your indoor plants will grow all year long. If this is the case, fertilize them during noticeable foliage growth with a ¼-strength diluted liquid fertilizer, or top dress the soil with worm castings or rich compost. Learn more about how to fertilize your indoor plants.

Growth Rate

Vining philodendrons have a medium-fast growth rate once established and provided with the proper care; they can grow as long as your arm-spread x 10! (Okay, they are vines and grow very long!)

Pet Friend or Foe

All Philodendrons are toxic to pets if they ingest the plant. Foe

Pro Tips

  1. When you trim back vines to make your plant fuller, you can propagate the cuttings.
  2. Staking your plant to climb upwards encourages more significant leaf development.
  3. Philodendrons with variegated leaves should be placed in bright indirect light to help maintain the light color.
  4. A clean plant is a happy plant. Make sure to wash their leaves every month to allow them to undergo photosynthesis.
