The “Fenestratum Mulyadii” is a rare and fascinating plant from the Araceae family, native to Borneo. It is a rheophyte, which means it grows on rocks along the banks of fast-moving streams and rivers. While it can withstand periods of flooding, it is not an aquatic plant and should not be kept permanently submerged.

Here is a care guide for growing Fenestratum Mulyadii :
Light:
- Bright, indirect light is ideal. Mimic its natural habitat on the forest floor, where it receives dappled sunlight.
- The color of the leaves can vary depending on the light. In high light, they are a rich, light green, while in low light they can become dark green to almost black.
- Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the delicate leaves.
Humidity:
- This plant requires very high humidity, 80% or more, to thrive. This is why it is best suited for a contained environment like a terrarium or paludarium.
- Regular misting or a humidifier will be necessary if you are not growing it in a sealed environment.
Watering:
- Keep the soil or substrate permanently moist, but ensure it is not waterlogged.
- It’s important to provide excellent drainage, as sitting in stagnant water can cause the rhizome to rot.
- While it prefers constant moisture, it can surprisingly withstand short-term droughts.
Soil/Substrate:
- This plant is often grown “emersed” (above water) on rocks or driftwood, which mimics its natural growth habit.
- If you are potting it, use a well-draining, airy mix. A mix similar to what you would use for orchids, with components like coco coir, perlite, and bark, can work well.
- The plant’s rhizome should not be buried in the substrate, as this can lead to rot.
Temperature:
- Fenestratum Mulyadii prefers permanently warm temperatures, always above 20°C (68°F).
- Avoid cold drafts or sudden temperature changes.
Fertilizer:
- This is a slow-growing plant, so it does not require heavy feeding.
- A balanced liquid fertilizer at half the recommended strength, applied about every two weeks during the growing season (spring and summer), should be sufficient.
Propagation:
- The most effective method is through rhizome division. You can carefully separate offshoots from the main plant to create new ones.

Important Note: Despite being found near water and sometimes sold as an aquarium plant, keeping Fenestratum Mulyadii permanently submerged will likely cause it to “melt” and rot. It is a rheophyte, adapted to growing above the water line and tolerating floods, not living underwater full-time.
