Here’s a comprehensive care guide for Dracaena Reflexa  :

Light

  • Bright, indirect light is ideal. This provides the best conditions for the plant to maintain its vibrant leaf colors and healthy growth.
  • It can tolerate lower light conditions, but this may result in slower growth and a loss of some of its bright variegation.
  • Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves and cause brown or bleached patches. If you have a south or west-facing window, place the plant a few feet away or use a sheer curtain to filter the light.

Water

  • Water when the top inch of soil feels dry. Dracaena reflexa is sensitive to overwatering, which can lead to root rot. It’s better to underwater slightly than to overwater.
  • Ensure the pot has good drainage. Never let the plant sit in standing water.
  • Be mindful of tap water. Dracaenas are sensitive to fluoride and other mineral salts commonly found in tap water. If you notice brown tips on the leaves, this could be a sign of fluoride toxicity. Using distilled or rainwater can help prevent this.

Soil

  • Use a high-quality, well-draining potting mix. A mix designed for houseplants, with added perlite or sand, will work well to ensure the roots don’t get waterlogged.

Temperature and Humidity

  • Temperature: It thrives in normal room temperatures, ideally between 65°F and 75°F (18°C – 24°C). Avoid exposing it to temperatures below 50°F (10°C) or cold drafts from windows and doors.
  • Humidity: This is a tropical plant and appreciates moderate to high humidity. If your home is particularly dry, especially in the winter, you can increase humidity by misting the leaves, placing the pot on a pebble tray with water, or using a humidifier.

Fertilizer

  • Feed with a balanced, water-soluble houseplant fertilizer every 2-4 weeks during the spring and summer (the growing season).
  • Dilute the fertilizer to half-strength to avoid over-fertilizing, which can also cause brown leaf tips.
  • Do not fertilize in the fall and winter, as the plant’s growth naturally slows down.

Pruning and Maintenance

  • Pruning: You can prune your plant to maintain its desired shape and size. Trim back any leggy stems or remove yellow or brown leaves. Pruning encourages the plant to become bushier.
  • Cleaning: The leaves can collect dust. Wipe them down periodically with a damp cloth or give the plant a gentle spray in the shower to keep them clean and allow for proper air exchange.
  • Repotting: Repot every 2-3 years, or when the plant becomes root-bound. Choose a new pot that is only 1-2 inches larger than the old one.
