Watering
Water regularly, but allow the soil to dry out slightly between waterings to prevent root rot. Water until liquid drains from the bottom of the pot, and discard any water in the saucer. Overwatering can cause yellow leaf tips, while underwatering can cause brown leaf tips.
-
Light
Place your anthurium in a warm, brightly lit room with indirect light. Anthuriums can adapt to low light, but they won’t grow as much.
-
Humidity
Anthuriums prefer high humidity. You can increase humidity by placing a tray of pebbles filled with water near the plant, or using a humidifier.
-
Fertilizing
During the growing season (spring and summer), feed your anthurium with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer for flowering plants once a month. Reduce or eliminate fertilizing during the dormant season (fall and winter). Over-fertilizing can cause yellow spotting on leaves.
-
Temperature
Anthuriums prefer temperatures between 70–90°F (21–32°C). Avoid placing them in drafty windows or in front of air conditioners.
-
Soil
Use a well-draining pot with a potting mix that’s 50% orchid and 50% houseplant.
-
Cleaning
Wipe the leaves with a cloth and diluted natural soap to remove dust and bring out their shine.
-
Support
If your anthurium has aerial roots, provide it with a stake or small trellis to climb on.
-
Pests and diseasesAnthuriums are susceptible to spider mites, scale, and mealybugs.
