Hen and Chicken Fern is an evergreen fern species native to Australia and New Zealand. This fern naturally grows on rocks and up trees in humid, rainforest regions. It has lime green feathery fronds. Works great in a hanging basket or potted feature plant. Grows approximately. 1.2m tall by 1.2m wide.
Ideal for Intermediate plant keepers or beyond.
Light Requirements: Medium Light is ideal
Moisture & Soil Requirements: Prefers evenly moist soil with good drainage in warm seasons – never soggy soil. Suits self-warering planters or regular small top ups.
Growth & Nutrients: Slow clumping growth, up to 75cm across – but that takes years. Suits apartments or homes of any size. Feed with a dilute general-purpose fertiliser for containers from the start of spring each year to autumn when growth slows down.
Temperature, Humidity & Ambient requirements: Prefers warm, humid environments inside. Humidity is important for ferns
