This interesting house plant is grown for its foliage and this has led to its common name of Elephant Ear. It’s easy to see why.
The leaves can grow to up to 40cm long and do resemble the ears of an elephant!
Easy to grow indoor
The foliage is medium green on top, with contrasting metallic-purple on the underside.
The large leaves are remarkable as the entire plant grows only to about 1 to 1.5 metres tall, with a similar width.
Keep this house plant away from direct sunlight. It enjoys a shady spot.
It is native to high elevations in New Guinea.
Protect from frost.
Water regularly, but don’t allow the plant to stand in water.
